He completed his Masters in Strategic Project Management at Heriot-Watt University (UK) and the Politecnico di Milano (Italy), as well as a Master in Administration from Umea University (Sweden). He has undergraduate studies in Computer Systems and Administration, as well as a minor in International Business from Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico). Professional Experience

Isaac is Professor of Innovation and Project Management at the University of Sussex (UK), as well as Professor of Strategy, Innovation and Economics at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He has been Professor of Business Process Management and Business Games at Politecnico di Milano and Professor of Strategic Consulting at Tecnológico de Monterrey. Before his academic career, Isaac was Director of Strategic Projects within the Mexican Tax Agency and Business Consultant at KPMG and Everis. He was also Vice President within the Erasmus Mundus Association. He is a member of the Associated Academic Committee of the ISPIM – International Society of Professionals in Innovation Management, and the Panel of Experts in High Technological Skills for the Creation of New Jobs and Services at the European Commission and member of the Global Network of Mexican Talents in Spain. He has published his research in various indexed academic journals and has given conferences, workshops and talks both in forums and in companies worldwide.

Dr Ebru Susur works as Assistant Professor in Innovation Studies at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. She has a sound experience in teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on key topics like innovation management, research methodology, sustainability transitions, circular economy, industrial ecosystem development, sustainable operations management, and industrial consultancy.

Besides her academic experience, Dr Ebru Susur undertook a variety of international projects in multi-national teams during her professional career. She worked as a qualified consultant and engineer on European Union environmental approximation studies and sustainable development for developing countries.

Dr. Álvaro García Sánchez is a professor at the ETSI Industriales, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in Spain. He obtained his degree in Industrial Engineering and his PhD from this same university. His main area of interest is Prescriptive Analytics for improving complex systems (especially in Supply Chain).

Professional experience

Over the last 20 years, Dr. García has offered consulting and training services for a wide range of companies. In 2011, he funded baobab soluciones, where he is currently working full time.  Mrs. Laura Reyero has a long experience as a marketing and sales manager in different companies such as Unilever, Karft Foods, Colgate, LIG and Altadis.

She is a founding partner of the strategic marketing consultancy EMK, from which she has worked for Telefónica, UNICEF, SelfBank, Globalia (PEPEPHONE), etc.

Ramon holds a MSc in Industrial  Engineering and a PhD in Industrial Engineering (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid). He is also Master in Gastronomic Tourism from the Basque Culinary Center.

Since 2013, he has been lecturing for postgraduate programs in different Universities and Business schools, such as, ESCP Europe, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid,  Universidad Carlos III de Madrid or Universidad Pontificia de Comillas.

Professional Experience

He started his professional career in Sustainability as a consultant on energy efficiency. He carried out different studies for international companies in the industrial sector.

He worked as an Assistant Professor at UPM for 6 years. He was invited as a visiting researcher at the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship in Santa Clara University (California, U.S.A.).

For three years he worked as a sustainability analyst at ACCIONA, where he designed and implemented the Corporate Training Program on Sustainability and participated in strategic projects to implement the company’s Sustainability Master Plan. Currently he develops sustainability projects as a freelancer consultant in the tourism and gastronomy sector.

Since the start of his academic career in 1987, Umit‘s research has focused on performance measurement and management that was funded through over 60 national and international research and knowledge exchange projects (with total funds exceeding £20m) resulting in over 90 widely cited academic journal and over 140 conference publications. His book entitled Managing Business Performance: the Science and the Art has received 5-star reviews from various practitioners.

Professional Experience

Umit is the Professor of Business Performance and the Deputy Executive Dean of the Edinburgh Business School at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland. In the past he was the Director of Strathclyde Institute for Operations Management and the Professor of Technology and Enterprise Management at the University of Strathclyde. He also served as the Chairman of IFIP’s Working Group on Advanced Production Management Systems, the Vice Chairman of the Institute of Operations Management and also as founding member of the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Board.

Umit‘s work resulted in the development of a number of research centres, including Centre for Strategic Manufacturing (1996), CompetitiveScotland.com (2000) and Centre for Business Process Outsourcing (2004) leading to the development of the Strathclyde Institute for Operations Management (2007) which is a multidisciplinary institute across Engineering, Business and Social Sciences faculties of the University.

Agnessa Spanellis

Dr. Agnessa Spanellis is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems Management and a member of the Research Centre for Logistics and Sustainability, one of the four new research centres in the school, leading research on gamification for sustainable development.

Professional Experience

The theme throughout her research work is gamification. Her research is focused on gamification as a new approach that can transform working practices in an organisation, e.g. by helping companies to transform into learning organisations and become more innovative. In particular, Agnessa is interested in exploring the intersection between gamification and my other areas of expertise, i.e. innovation, innovation management, knowledge management, operations management, performance management, organisational learning, and technology-enabled change and innovation. Her other major area of interest includes exploring how gamification can improve social and environmental sustainability, especially in more deprived and impoverished communities in developing counties. One of the most recent projects in this area includes developing a gamified communicative strategy for indigenous communities in Colombia during COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, Agnessa is working on developing a gamified training system for the evacuation during a volcanic eruption in Indonesia, and a gamified communicative strategy to address infodemic and fake news issues in impoverished communities in Brazil. She has recently published a book called Transforming Society and Organizations through Gamification.

Dr Christine Rutherford is Director of Learning and Teaching and Associate Professor in Supply Chain Management at Heriot Watt University. She completed her PhD in Physical Chemistry at Hull University(UK), her Executive MSc Logistics & Supply Chain Management at Cranfield School of Management (UK), her MSc in Physical Chemistry and her BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry at the University of Natal (South Africa).

Professional experience

Prior to joining Heriot-Watt Dr Christine Rutherford spent 7 years teaching at the Cranfield School of Management following a career as a commissioned officer in the Royal Air Force. Since joining Heriot-Watt she has held visiting positions at the Copenhagen Business School (CBS), the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH) and BVL University in Bremen. Since 2017 she has worked closely with the Kuehne Foundation to support and advise their Global Logistics Education Programme which aims to increase accessibility and improve the quality of logistics higher education in developing countries. To date she has provided training and support to logistics academics in Kyrgyzstan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Nigeria.

Her research and consultancy work is industry based and focused on solving supply chain and logistics problems, particularly in the areas of supply chain design, demand planning, and inventory management strategy. She takes a predominantly quantitative and analytical approach to designing optimal solutions that are both practical for the organization and theoretically robust. Most recently, for example, she led a 3 year KTP project with the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) to design a resilient and integrated blood supply chain in Scotland. Her work is published in national and international conference and practitioner journals.

Lakshman Wimalasena

Dr. Lakshman Wimalasena is an assistant professor in human resource management (HRM) at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University (HWU) and an active member of the Centre for Research on Employment, Work and the ProfessionS (CREWS).

Professional Experience

A keen enthusiast in Critical Realism and a founding member of the Edinburgh Critical Realist Forum, Lakshman is dedicated to a research career bridging the problems of social inequality within occupational and socio-cultural domains and the emancipatory potential vested in Western philosophy, particularly personal reflexivity, in advancing the life conditions of marginalised individuals. He researches in the areas of work and meaning of work, critical issues in HRM, diversity, inclusion, rural women, digitalisation and social media and personal reflexivity. He is currently involved in research projects that explore the experiences of rural women and women in global apparel industry, gender justice, digitalisation and social media as well as investigating the causal and precarious work performed by marginalised women in the global apparel manufacturing sector. His key published work focuses on rural Sri Lankan women’s reflexive life and occupational journeys, critical realism and conceptualising entrepreneurship and the dominance of reflexive, conscious action over habitual action within contemporary society. Lakshman is also actively involved in gender justice and racial equality activities and has recently been appointed as a ‘Respect Ambassador’ at the University.

Shai Davidov is  an academic educator, project management practitioner and a senior consultant. He is a senior fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA), a graduate of the Advance HE Academic Leadership Programme and a certified management & business educator (CMBE) of the Chartered Association of Business Schools.

Professional Experience

As an Associate Professor of Management in the Edinburgh Business School, he develops, design and lead innovative postgraduate and MBA level courses and programmes. Currently he serves as the Director of the MSc in Strategic Project Management and Management for the Oil & Gas Industry programmes.

He combines a passion for innovation and sustainability with extensive knowledge and experience in business and technical management. He is a fellow of the Association for Project Management (APM) and a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI), Scottish Programme and Project Management Group (SPPMG), the Risk Management Society (RIMS), and the Strategic Planning Society (SPS).

Her background is in languages and intercultural studies and she has a strong interest in feminist and postcolonial theories. Her research is interdisciplinary and focuses on a number of related topics that might be summed up as ways of approaching issues of sameness and difference in multicultural contexts. Among these is the (re)construction of identity and home-making among members of ethnic and peripheral groups, with a particular focus on the Syrian diaspora. Following work with Syrian refugees in Scotland, she has developed a keen interest in socio-political and cultural issues that affect their belonging.

Dr. Lina Fadel is  a member of the Edinburgh Business School ‘Doctoral Studies’ team and teach Business Research Methods to doctoral candidates. She also is Global Course Co-ordinator and Edinburgh Course Leader for the MSc ‘Research Philosophy and Practice’ course. She acts as a doctoral mentor and supervisor and Member of the Doctoral Review Committee that monitors quality and progress of the School’s Doctor of Business Administration students. She has so far supervised two doctorates to completion and now acts as internal examiner at the University.

Her most recent project looks at narratives of belonging of highly-skilled Syrians in the UK.

She welcomes PhD projects in the area of migration and refugee studies, which relate to home and place-making, liminal identities, race and othering in relation to identity negotiation and formation.

Professional Experience

She is the global Director of Logistics Studies & the Director of MSc Logistics & Supply Chain Management Programme  at Heriot-Watt University Dubai. Prior to her appointment at Heriot-Watt University in 2016, she has had two years of experience in one of the UAE Academic institutions in which she was the director of both undergraduate and postgraduate Logistics and Supply Chain Management Programme. In 2014, she was invited as a visiting scholar at the Logistics Research Centre, at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Her main research interest is sustainability and supply chain resilience. She has published several research papers and book chapters in areas such as automotive recall risk and social sustainable supply chain performance, sustainable maritime logistics, supply chain information security, and contemporary disruptive business applications of blockchain technology.  She also published a number of articles in which she shared her business insights in well-regarded industry magazines in the field of logistics and supply chain.  She has developed extensive international teaching experience across the UK and MENA region. Mr. Riccardo Calcagno holds a PhD in Economics from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium).  His research focuses on information economics and its applications to household finance and corporate finance. He has investigated various topics such as financial literacy and financial advice, mergers and acquisitions and the problems inherent to the negotiation processes behind them, the design of managerial compensation. She is an Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Applied Economics at Politecnico di Torino. She holds a PhD in Development Economics from the University of Trento (Italy). Her research interests cover international economics, economic geography and labour economics. She has expertise in the study of determinants and effects of migration, FDI and trade, as well as on the impact evaluation of public policies. She spent visiting research periods at the Institute for Employment Research (Germany) and at Orkestra- Insituto Vasco de Competitividad (Spain). She is a fellow of the VisitINPS initiative of the Italian Social Security Agency (INPS). She has ongoing teaching and research cooperation activities with the UN System and in particular with the International Training Centre of the ILO and with IOM- UN Migration. Her works have been published in international journals, e.g., Economic Geography, Research Policy, Regional Studies, Review of World Economics, the Journal of Technology Transfer, Economia Politica, and Social Choice and Welfare. In November 2020, she was awarded the Ladislao Mittner Prize in Economic Sciences.

Gerardo Velasco Gutiérrez obtained a professional degree in Chemical and Systems Engineering, his academic training includes a Master’s Degree in Finance and a Certificate in Socioeconomic Evaluation of projects, at Tecnológico de Monterrey, a Master’s Degree in Research in Administrative Sciences and a Doctorate in Creation Companies from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

He is currently Director of the Master in Engineering Management, at the ITESM School of Engineering and Sciences. He has also been responsible for several regional development studies. He has been regional coordinator of the Trust “Center for Studies for the Preparation and Evaluation of Projects” (CEPEP) of BANOBRAS, where he was responsible for coordinating the evaluation of more than 165 investment projects.

Coordinator of the Learning and Innovation Loans project led by the World Bank, coordinator of the National Fisheries Plan in the Pacific region. During 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, correction of the operating rules of said programs to align and establish consistency with the MIR’s (matrix of indicators).

Co-Evaluator of 4 Federal programs for SAGARPA reflected in Logical framework matrices as well as the review and improvement of their operating rules.Coordinator of the elaboration of 48 Logical Framework matrices for the FAO-SAGARPA project, in terms of rural development. Professional Experience During his 35 years in the high tech industry, Gerardo held senior executive global/regional leadership positions in HP during his almost 30 years with the company, working in the computers-storage, Printers and Services businesses in the US and Mexico.

He delivers business outcomes through transformation and maximizing team engagement to grow revenue and improve margins. He has amble experience in operations , supply chain, quality, new product design, support and shared services- Finance, Marketing, Sales, HR, Procurement. In his tenure at HP, he delivered $1900 million in value with inside sales, optimization, cash flow acceleration, asset efficiencies, operation margins, cost reduction, simplification, robotics and automation.

Prior to joining HP, he worked for Delco Products where he started his career as a manufacturing and process engineer supporting diverse automotive product lines.

Currently he has his own business in construction building residential housing, does consulting and sits on the board of several start-ups and organizations. He is also an active professor in the master and bachelor engineering programs at TEC de Monterrey University.

Araceli Zavala Martínez

Academic Background

Araceli Zavala obtained a PhD. In Engineering Management from Stevens Institute of Technology, where she was recognized for writing the best doctoral thesis of the 2020 generation and the best scientific publication in 2019 awarded by the School of Systems and Enterprises. Her research focuses on supply chain resilience, analytics, and data visualization. Also, she holds a Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering from the Institute Tecnologico de Morelia and a Master of Science degree in Quality and Productivity from the Tecnologico de Monterrey.

Professional Experience

She has worked since 2005 at the Industrial Engineering department at ITESM Campus Guadalajara as full-time professor teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses related to the area of Statistics, Operations Research and Supply Chain mainly. As a result of her work, she has been a consultant for several small and big companies in Mexico such as Pernord Ricard, Arca Continental, and others. Before working as a professor, she worked as General Manager at a textile Distribution Center and Operation Manager.

Araceli collaborated as a professor for the graduate program of Engineering Management at Stevens Institute of Technology for two years (2016-2018). She worked and did research at the Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC) focusing on understanding what makes systems engineers effective. Finally, she has been reviewer of several journals.

Agustín Pérez-Araos

Agustin Perez-Araos obtained a PhD in Industrial Engineering froma the University of Manchester. He also has a MSc in Manufacturing Systems with Speciality in Computer Integrated Manufacturing and a BSc in Industrial and Systems Engineering, both from Institut° Tecnologico de Monterrey.

Professional Experience

He is currently the Industrial Engineering Department Industry-Academy Projects Coordinator in ITESM Campus Guadalajara. He has been the leader in several projects such as Continuous Improvement Diagnosis in SASA SA de C.V. and in the Hoshin Kanri implementation in WTC in confianza.

In Tecnológico de Monterrey, he has also directed the Industrial Engineering Department and the Manufacturing Systems Centre. From 1995 to 1998 he was the research assistant in campus Guadalajara. As professor, he has taught in three levels: postgraduate, executive education and undergraduate. He was a visiting professor in the Total Energy Summer School in France and in The Nurtingen-Geislingen University in Germany.

Eduardo López Soriano

Eduardo Manuel Lopez Soriano holds a B.S. in Computer Science (1975), one M.S. in Numerical Analysis (1976), a second M.S. in Industrial Engineering (1979), and a Ph.D. in Food System Management (1981), all of them obtained at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His long academic performance dates back to 1983 in many institutions throughout Latin-America, Spain, Finland and Portugal.

Presently he is a Guest Professor at Tecnologico de Monterrey in both EGADE Business School and the National School of Engineering. He also is a Guest lecturer at Universidad Aut6noma de Nuevo Le6n, College of Engineering. Both universities are located in Monterrey, Mexico.

He is the CEO of NCA Europa, S.C., a consulting company for Strategic Manufacturing Business Analytics in areas of R & D, industrial production processes, and quality engineering.

As a scientist, he has been associated for many years with Tecnologico de Monterrey and EGADE Business School collaborating in research directed to industrial decision making. Presently, he has accumulated several scientific research papers in specialized journals from Great Britain, United States, Canada and Mexico. He received a doctorate in Project Management from University College London, a Master’s in Manufacturing Systems from Tecnológico de Monterrey, and a High Level Specialty in Project Management in Germany. He graduated from the career ofTechnician in Machines and Tools and Industrial Mechanical Engineer from Tecnológico de Morelia.

Professional Experience

He has extensive experience in consulting and executive education in the areas of project portfolio management, project engineering, and new product development. He is also an evaluator of entrepreneurship projects and advisor on open innovation. He has collaborated for different companies since 1984 in both the private and public sectors and has recently been a consultant and director of project management training programs in companies such as Newmont Gold Corp, Steel Case and Coppel.

Adan Lopez is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute of the United States, as well as Certified Project Management by the International Project Management Association. The training programs he runs are certified by both institutions.

He has been director of the Business Incubator and is a professor of Project Management, Processes, Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the School of Engineering and at EGADE Business School at Tecnológico de Monterrey since 1997. He also counts with a Bs in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Tecnologico de Monterrey.

Professional Experience

He is consultant and partner of Red de Consultoria Nueve since 2017. In TecSalud, he was he was the Cardiology and Traumatology Service Line Director from 2016 to 2017, Paramedic and Operation Director for five years and Supply Chain Director from 2008 to 2012.

He counts with publications in several journals such as The International Journal of Production Economics and The International Journal of Production Research.

He is currently professor in the Industrial and Systems Department in Tecnologico de Monterrey.
